Horseheads, NY - The Horseheads Hitmen earned a hard-fought 4–2 victory over the Salamanca Lizards on Saturday evening at The Holding Point Recreation Complex, improving their record to 2–4 on the season.
After falling behind 2–0 in the first inning, Horseheads rallied with a three-run fifth inning, sparked by a clutch two-run home run from Kazuto Matsuda. Jayren Foster added insurance in the eighth with a solo shot of his own to finish the night 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Dom Tizzano delivered a strong start for the Hitmen, tossing 7.0 innings while allowing just two runs on five hits and striking out five. Dominic Vogel closed the door with two scoreless innings of relief, earning the save.
Despite the loss, Salamanca (2–2) was led offensively by Harley Hoag, who went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored. The Lizards got early RBIs from Connor Smith and Hunter White, but their bats were silenced after the first frame.
The Salamanca bullpen struggled to hold the lead, with Gabe Roth and Bryce Jackson combining to allow four runs, including both long balls.
Horseheads stole four bases in the game, while their pitchers held Salamanca hitless over the final six innings. The Hitmen also overcame two errors in the field with timely pitching and power at the plate.
Horseheads will look to build on this momentum as they head to Houghton on Sunday for a 2:00 PM matchup against the Genesee Rapids. Horseheads welcomes Salamanca back to The Holding Point on Monday at 5:00 PM.
