Hitmen Drop Pair of Games to Steamers in Tuesday Doubleheader

HORNELL, N.Y. -- The Horseheads Hitmen came up short in both games of a doubleheader against the Hornell Steamers on Tuesday at Maple City Park, falling 8-7 in the opener before dropping the nightcap 6-2.

In Game 1, the Hitmen battled back after trailing 5-1 early. Horseheads erupted for four runs in the third inning and added two more in the fifth to take a 7-5 lead. Marco Pulizzi led the offense, going 2-for-3 with a home run, double, two RBIs, and two runs scored, while Michael Sabella collected three hits and drove in a run.

Liam Annand added a pair of RBIs as the Hitmen out-hit the Steamers 13-7. Hornell answered with two runs in the fourth and pushed across the winning run in the bottom of the seventh to secure the 8-7 victory.

In the second game, Horseheads recorded nine hits but could not overcome an early Hornell advantage. Mason Sanno paced the offense with three hits, while Joshua Ramos drove in a run and Connor Monroe scored after doubling.

Luke Richards tossed a complete game for the Hitmen, allowing six runs—only two earned—while striking out five. The Steamers used a three-run fourth inning to build their lead and went on to claim a 6-2 win.

Horseheads will look to bounce back as they continue New York Collegiate Baseball League play later this week.
