Steamers Pull Away Early in 11-3 Victory Over Hitmen

HORSEHEADS, N.Y. – The Horseheads Hitmen were unable to overcome a pair of big innings from the Hornell Steamers on Saturday afternoon, falling 11-3 at home in New York Collegiate Baseball League action.

Hornell broke open a scoreless game with four runs in the third inning before adding four more in the fourth to build an 8-2 advantage. The Steamers added two runs in the seventh and another in the ninth while collecting 16 hits on the afternoon.

The Hitmen scored once in each of the second, third, and fourth innings. Yahir Ortiz paced the offense with a perfect 2-for-2 performance, reaching base four times and scoring twice. Mason Sanno went 2-for-4 with a double, walk, and RBI, while Connor Monroe tripled and scored a run. Jay Pipher added an RBI single and Michael Sabella drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.

Hornell was led by Marcus Brehm, who finished 3-for-5 with a double, triple, home run, and two RBIs. Taylor Joseph added a home run and drove in four runs for the Steamers.

Daniel Lewis suffered the loss for Horseheads, allowing eight runs (two earned) over 3.2 innings while striking out six. Johnathon Panarese worked the final 5.1 innings in relief, allowing three runs and striking out three.

The Hitmen finished with eight hits but stranded 12 runners on base in the defeat.
